Taking Up Matters

When Doug was bedridden for so many months and no doctor was being able to help him, he decided he could not just sit back and see his life deteriorating in front of his own eyes. He had to take up matters into his own hands and find the answers and solutions.

A Step Ahead

Doug had decided to fight against his rare disease and what he did next surprised the whole world. “He did something extraordinary,” said John Novack, spokesman for ‘Inspire’ which is a social healthcare network for patients with rare diseases. The world was going to learn from him the story of immense courage and patience.

First Revelation

When Doug started on the path of finding answers about his disease, his first discovery was that his health conditions had become similar to those of his mother and so it had something to do with genetics. His mother and Aunt had suffered from the same condition and had been very frail and bedridden all through his childhood. But what was it exactly and was there a cure for it?

Failed Attempt

In a hopeless attempt to make his conditions improve, Doug changed his diet altogether and inclined it towards Vitamin B12 in an attempt to cure his weakness. He even tried acupuncture, but nothing proved to be helpful in improving his condition.

Hunting Books

When Doug was sure of the fact that the conditions that he had been suffering with are the same as his mother and his Aunt, he decided to hunt the books of physiology which tried to make him believe that he had Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), which is a disease without any ailment for. But he knew that was not all. His problem was much more than that.

First Conclusion

By the year 2000, after much research and hunting for books on various topics, Doug came to the conclusion that his autonomic nervous system was malfunctioning. But he knew then also that he had not reached to the final disease that had kept him in bed for more than a year now. And to find the disease, he was going to adopt some nasty ways.
