He Had A Gun
Sgt. Ryan Speegle explained, “he (Gary Grimm) had keys. Had a gun. It could have been an extremely bad situation.” Ryan was the first one to reach the room and he saw the prisoners surrounding Gary and holding the radio instead of the gun.
Getting Back In
The officer immediately called 911 while the prisoners got into their cell again. They stayed silent and waited for the help to arrive. They knew they’ve done all that was in their hands. But was that enough to save Gary’s life who was not even breathing?
Immediate Assistance
The officers couldn’t wait for the paramedic team to arrive and they performed CPR on Gary immediately. Sadly, there was no improvement. As soon as the paramedic team arrived they took over the situation. Were they able to save the man?
Natural Reaction
Kelton recalled, “he’s a good man. I watched him die twice. It never crossed my mind not to help whether he’s got a gun or a badge. If he falls down, I’m gonna help him.” The inmates saw Gary not responding twice but when the paramedic gave him shocks through the defibrillator, Gary started breathing and his pulse was too low but it could be sensed.
Saving A Man’s Life
Capt. Mark Arnett clearly said that these inmates brought Gary back to life, “he could have been there 15 minutes before any other staff walked in and found him. It saved his life, without a doubt.” He not only proved that all the inmates aren’t bad but also had facts that spoke on his behalf.
Bad Decisions
Arnett told in an interview that jail isn’t just home to criminals but to people who made mistakes and realized too, “but they’re still human. They still have emotions, and conscience, and morals.” Mr. Gary Grimm, on the other hand, was still fighting for his life in the hospital.
