Something Wasn’t Right
Well, if these inmates were trying to run away, then the first thing they should have done was to snatch away Gary’s gun but they didn’t. This didn’t seem right. Something was just not getting together. But what?
Why Not Leave?
If this was just another escape plan, then these guys would have been out anytime now. They were all standing there, was it some kind of joke? No, it was life or death situation. But who was dying? And how? And why was there no help?
The Truth
So, it all started when jailer Gary Grimm was talking to the inmates. Like always he was telling them jokes. When Gary slumped over, the inmates thought its all part of his joke. Sadly, that wasn’t it. The truth was as inmate Nick Kelton recalled in an interview, “he just fell over. Looked like an act.”
It Was For Real!
The inmates tried to cheer Gary up from behind the bars but when he didn’t get back normal, it freaked out the inmates. They grew anxious and as Nick said that Gary “could have died right there.” That’s when they tried calling him loudly, thinking he just fainted.
We Must Do Something
Gary was not responding. He was unconscious and seeing this, the inmates started shouting louder so that someone would listen to the noise and come to help the 50- year-old jailer. Unfortunately, nobody turned up and it was high time.
Taking Matters In Their Hands
Trying to break out of the bars wasn’t a good plan but there was no other option left. So, they all tried to break it all together, and they succeeded. This was no game, they were risking their lives to save Grimm. Letting him die wasn’t something they could take.
