Salva Garcia
‘La Salvajeria’ was the name of the place where Garcia worked. He came to Jose, a random homeless man on the streets and proposed that he agree to a makeover. Not just trimming his messed up beard and hair but a complete head to toe makeover. The 55-year-old man was confused, a little taken aback because he was not expecting an offer like this but what was the harm anyway?
Change, At No Cost
The ‘La Salvajeria’ salon gave this 55-year-old man a free makeover. They made a film,( attached ahead) for the salon’s third anniversary. Jose was thrilled to be the subject of change. He thought that this makeover could be the thing that turned his life around. So he readily agreed and the transformation that happened brought Jose to tears and the video captures all of it.
First impressions
Jose was in the salon now and he recollected his life’s story to Garcia, how he lost everything. When he looked in the mirror, he could not even remember when was the last time, he shaved his beard or combed his hair- these are not the privileges of a homeless person. He confided in Garcia that he believed that people judged by first impressions and he wanted to change how people thought of him.
Mirrors Closed
When Jose was seated the stylist asked him, “Jose, Windows open or closed?” and this is what Jose replied, “Windows… open for now so I can see myself for the last time like this. Now we close them, so that when we open them again, it’s as if something else has opened too in my life: like a symbol. Please closed.” Jose clearly had too many expectations from the entire adventure but even he could not believe the result.
Already Saving
Before getting his makeover done, Jose sat for an interview of sorts to tell everyone what he did currently so that people could judge that if his life changed, the changed appearance might have a lot to do with it. He told, “I started parking cars and I live on that. I am saving money to get a room.” Salva was going to try to make things easier for him, and Jose was excited and nervous at the same time.
Different Kinds Of Happy
Jose continued, “I am happy with who I am because I love who I am but I can’t be happy with my life. Parking cars and living like this would not make anyone happy.” Even though he was practically living on the streets now Jose had not given up hopes and dreams or even a routine. He tried to maintain some discipline in his life. Maybe that is what made him the perfect choice for Salva Garcia.
