This is the story of a Spanish man who goes by the name of Jose Antonio. He was rendered homeless when he started having mental health problems. He was an electrician but depression ruined his entire stable life and brought him to the streets in Palma, Spain where he lived in a makeshift shelter for 25 years until something happened that changed his life, forever. He was a victim of depression. This man who had a stable living, lost it all when he stopped feeling like getting out of bed as he felt depressed all the time. He lost his job, then his home and started living on the streets with no electricity, water or cooking facilities. He was 30 when he lost it all and when the life-changing experience came his way, he was 55. Who says you are too old for anything?
Not Like All Days Of 25 years
It was supposed to be like rest of the days of his street life which he would have spent working as the parking attendant. But it wasn’t. A person named Salva Garcia, an employee at a salon in the locality approached him and made a proposal. No, not a marriage proposal but something even better for him. Something he could not refuse and something that changed his life from there on.The ‘La Salvajeria’ salon gave this 55-year-old man a free makeover. They made a film,( attached ahead) for the salon’s third anniversary. Jose was thrilled to be the subject of change. He thought that this makeover could be the thing that turned his life around. So he readily agreed and the transformation that happened brought Jose to tears and the video captures all of it.
When Jose was seated the stylist asked him, “Jose, Windows open or closed?” and this is what Jose replied, “Windows… open for now so I can see myself for the last time like this. Now we close them, so that when we open them again, it’s as if something else has opened too in my life: like a symbol. Please closed.” Jose clearly had too many expectations from the entire adventure but even he could not believe the result.
And It Begins
Jose was finally on the chair with more than 2 people tending to change his entire appearance, of course, it felt like a royal treatment to him. The changes in his expressions betray all his emotions of nervousness, excitement, and anticipation. The video is a fast-forwarded version of all the changes brought to his appearance in a span of a couple of hours. The mirrors, as he had requested were shut. It can be seen from the pictures what a mess Jose’s hair was. They had to be taken one bunch at a time to be brought under control. In the video, it can be seen that Jose’s hair had to be clipped on and put in a bun for the stylist to be able to manage the hair at the back. No wonder it took almost 2 hours in the entire process, but Jose’s hair was not the only thing that was going to be changed.
New Clothes
As said earlier, the transformation in the entire of Jose’s visage was the idea of this makeover. His measurements were taken and new and branded shirt and trousers were brought for this lucky homeless man. He did not see the mirror until he had changed into the fresh garments and when he did, he could not believe his eyes, well neither could we. All of Jose’s unruly locks were cut down. His hair was given a sharp, neat and trimmed look. Now was the turn of his unkempt beard. His beard actually caught the trimmer in it a couple of times. But Salva was a professional and he got the beard under control too. However, he had more plans for Jose. Since it was to be a complete makeover, how about a change in hair color too?
Yep. To make Jose look younger and unrecognizable, Garcia and his team decided to dye the white hair of this 55-year-old man to jet black, both of his head and beard. And the result? Well, you should see for yourself. It moved Jose to tears and what happened to him after this makeover is even more miraculous. Did he become a model, you might have seen somewhere or recognized?
Final Touches
Before the mirror window was opened when Jose would finally have gotten to see his new, transformed self, the stylists gave his face final touches. His neckline was made neat, so was his beard. He was made to wear the new clothes bought specially for him, his hair combed until they were exactly what Garcia wanted. Jose was nervous with anticipation to see his new self and while watching the video ahead, so were we.Garcia is a perfectionist and he wanted Jose to see himself as an entirely transformed person, which meant that the salon team made sure not to leave any chance of a change. Even Jose’s eyebrows were made, extra hair plucked out, everything was done to enhance, what was going to be his new avatar.
“I Am Not Jose Antonio”
Overwhelmed and stunned by how different two hours can make him look, and unable to believe his own eyes, Jose Antonio looked into the mirror and said, “I Am Not Jose Antonio. No one is going to recognize me! I mean even if I tell them who I am, no one is going to recognize me. I am telling you, no one in the whole neighborhood will recognize me.” He was sort of right.”I am totally different. It’s not me.” Jose kept repeating these words. To him it was like a miracle, he went from looking homeless to an attractive looking neat man within two hours, WITHOUT any cost. When asked if this new look was better he said, “ya, but it’s incredible.” Now that he was made over, it was time to put him on the streets again, among the people he crossed daily and see their reactions. 
Before- After
But first, to emphasize the extent of his physical alteration here is a before and after makeover pictures of Jose. It can be seen that there is nothing similar about the two pictures except for the humble smile and innocent eyes. Since appearance matters so much to people, they could not see past through it when they were put to test. Some simply could not recognize Jose.The waiter at this restaurant had been Jose’s acquaintance for years now, so Jose planned to put him on a test. He went and sat like a regular customer and said to the waiter, “Can you get me a beer?” When the man went to get the beer, Jose smiled at the camera, thrilled that his friend wasn’t able to recognize him.
