Bribing

To make the baby elephant realize that they had good intentions the rangers put out a tub full of water in front of it. Africa is obviously a hot place and it had been some time since the baby had been separated from its family. So the rangers assumed that the little one would be thirsty by now. Given elephants’ size, their water consumption is a lot. That is why they are mostly found near water pools.

And It Worked!

The rangers had got it right. The baby was indeed quite thirsty and the man had not even kept the tub in front of the baby yet but it was so thirsty that it ran as fast as it’s rope would allow. It could hardly reach the tub but it looked extremely excited at being served water. It seemed to have been thirsting for a while now and its reaction showed that it was now comfortable.

Thank You, Hooman

After noticing that the baby elephant started to get comfortable and responded positively at being given water the rangers too started loosening up and one of them neared the tub to the baby elephant so that it could drink the water more comfortably. The elephant did not react to the human nearing it because by now it had established trust in these humans. It was still desperate to go to its real family.

Humoring All

When the baby elephant found itself within the reach of drinking water it suddenly grew excited but that was nothing compared to its behavior after it started drinking. The not so little animal started goofing with the water and it really made the rangers crack up. They seemed to be having a good time with the elephant which can be proven by the smile on the face of the ranger in the picture. It was going to be evening soon and the baby needed to be united with its herd.

Body Wash

Now that the baby elephant was literally being served to its trunk fill, it did not hesitate to empty down the entire tub of water. It splashed the water on its body too, to keep itself cool.  It had lost all its timidity around the humans and was playing like no one was around. But with every sound in the bushes, the elephant looked up, hoping it was its family. And just when the rangers were starting to lose hope, there came a sound.

Nature Calling

Just when the rangers thought that they might have to find a shelter for the baby elephants for the night, there came a distant sound and the baby elephant heard it too. It instantly got alert and agitated as it realized it was its herd calling it out. Afterall, they had not abandoned it and were still looking for the young member of their family. The baby again tried to get free from the rope.
