The Gold Kept On Coming…
They were expecting more weapons but the stashes of gold bricks made their discovery thrilling and frightening at the same time because they had no idea what was to be done with the gold that they were holding in their hands. This was an amazing discovery in all true sense because how often do you hear about people finding gold? So many questions revolving around about who put it there? who is the owner of all this gold? Why did they hide? Was somebody trying to smuggle the gold that too in the army tank? What will happen after this discovery was made public? Due to all these reasons, they decided to film all of this just make sure that they are not doing anything illegal or stealing these items for themselves and to avoid further problems in future they decide to call the emergency services.
Calling Emergency Services
Did I not mention the worth of the gold they found? It was $2.5 million. You must be wondering about their decision of calling emergency services, why did they call them? They could have just kept the gold to themselves and gold of that kind of worth could have changed Nick, Mead and his family lives forever or they could have just given all of it to the charity. But Nick felt that calling the emergency services was the right thing to do.
Why Report It?
There was no proper explanation about the gold that they found and both Nick and Todd had no clue about the process when you find something this valuable that might have some political connection that to related to Saddam Hussein. These two decided to play safe as they could have been in real trouble if they had kept this as a secret for much longer. Hence, reporting about it was an intelligent move. They have explained their decision of reporting the discovery that you can check out in the video at the end.
Gold-Treasure Weigh In
In total, there were 5 gold bars that were estimated to have a worth of $2.5 million. After Nick Mead told his friends about the discovery he asked them what would they have done if they found out gold or money worth $2.5 million. Some said they would have bought a new house, a new car or vacations in other countries but for Nick and Mead life is about much more than all these secondary stuff. For Nick collecting tanks was his childhood dream and it was never about the money. He had this awesome business which he loved so much and didn’t want to make it go waste just because he found some gold worth a lot of money. He loved his job and his people who work there. After all, life is all about honesty. Right?
Story Behind All The Gold
The only possible explanation about the gold ending up in the gas tank that came up on the surface was about when Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. With all the loot that Iraq made during the invasion, the soldiers might have had to hide the gold in the gas tank. The loot was so popular that the United Nations had to intervene ordering Iraq to return all the loot back to Kuwait.
Next, the two Northamptonshire police officers reported back on the complaint that Nick reported about the gold they found in the Russian T-54 tank.
Was The Gold Looted From Kuwait?
When the two investigating officer came to meet Nick the main question was where all this gold had come from? Was it really the Iraq invasion? Or something related to Saddam Hussein involvement? During the investigation, all of the clues were pointing to the invasion story but they couldn’t confirm as the investigation was ongoing. Another theory that surfaced was of the possible involvement of Saddam Hussein as he was infamous for hiding his lavish stuff in his palace and bunkers he had.
