Crew Questioned
The police did not take much time in catching the crew of Independence. The boat and its crew were going towards Bangladesh without the ship when they got caught by Myanmar Navy. If the crew had left the ship amid the sea then they were supposed to be questioned.
Still working?
So, the ship was devoid of any living being. Not only that, Sam Ratulangi did not seem to be in a state of making more voyages. Hence, steering this heavy ship away from the Sittaung river was going to be a big task for the navy. And with a weight of 26,500 tons, there was a possibility of the ship to get caught in a bad weather again. And perhaps, the ship would break free again.
Social Response
The ghost ship that made its surprise appearance off the coast of Myanmar garnered lots of attention worldwide. “Myanmar NAVY,” a social media profile put out a picture of Sam Ratulangi on the site that ultimately received thousands of likes. Apart from that, people in hundreds shared it. Why would they not be, seeing a ghost ship is not a common thing.
A Look Inside
While looking for any cargo or crew on the ship, the Navy team got the opportunity to inspect its engine room. Surprisingly, the engine room was much better looking as compared to other parts of the ship. The sight indeed gave a hope. Perhaps, a little attention and care would make the ship fit enough to undertake another journey. The Navy can make another use of it by putting it on Craigslist or eBay to sell.
Seized By The Navy
Even though the Myanmar Navy has got its hand on the ship, The investigation has to seek answers to many questions. The ship is going to be with Myanmar Navy until the investigation reaches its final stage. So, what are the questions, the navy is seeking an answer to? Firstly, why the ship remained off the radar for nearly a decade? Secondly, did the crew manage to survive the situation that put the ship off the radar? If yes, where were they?
What Next?
The future of Sam Ratulangi is uncertain. The ship that remained obscure for nine years comes up with lots of questions. As of now, the ship is under the care of Navy. However, once the investigation gets over, the ship would sail towards an undetermined future. Perhaps, the ship would end up in a scrap store or maybe once again move towards the Bangladeshi shipbreakers. And if the ship remains in luck, perhaps someone would restore it to its former self.
