Shore And Goods
The morning of August 27, 2018, was different from other days. However, the weather was the same as usual in Myanmar, the sun was blazing high and the sky was blue and clean, birds were chirping like every other day. The fishermen were heading towards the sea to catch fishes for their livelihood. Everything was just the way it should be until an odd sight caught people’s attention. It was a cargo ship! The giant ship was moving uncontrollably. It seemed there was no one inside it. However, the ship was moving in the direction of the shore as if someone was steering the vessel towards it. Moreover, the ship looked nothing like an ordinary ship. It looked different. Hence, the fishermen informed coastguards about it.
Calling The Police
The coastguards arrived on the spot at once. The ship was not very far from the shore so they decided to get near it on their own to check if everything was fine with it. The coast guards jumped into the ship after getting closer to the vessel. They learned that the name of the ship was Sam Ratulangi PB 1600. The revelation made them go weak in their knees. The ship had disappeared without a trace decades ago. Strangely, no one got to hear about it after it sailed off, let alone seeing.
For Nine Years
The ship had been sailing for nine years. As the ship was continuously functioning without a rest for almost a decade, it looked worn out. However, the vessel had gone rusty and dirty with the time that added to its spooky look. Getting on that ship involved a lot of risks as there was no trace of sailors or passengers.
Final Destination!
Whereas Sam Ratulangi was all empty, Independence did have some passengers. There were 13 crew members on the ship. The authorities caught them all for questioning. The members admitted that they were steering the Sam Ratulangi but the ship strayed because of rough weather. They further stated that they were planning on taking the vessel to Bangladesh to sell that to the shipbreakers. The buyers would dismantle it to get some money out of it.
Cutting Loose
So where did they find the ship? Well, the crew members were sailing in their small boat when they came across it. By seeing it only, the members realized that it was captainless. They were not in the mood to let such a giant ship go so they decided to take it over. After getting it into their control, they decided to take it to Bangladesh. They would have succeeded in their mission had the weather not taken the turn for worse.
