A Deal
The Russians got the license of manufacturing the Luxus 300 by the DKW, a German automobile company. Once the Russians got adroit in the making of the motorbike, they began producing their own version of the bike in a factory in Leningrad. Gradually, the bike picked popularity and became an integral part of the military.
In Trend
The bike was very much in use during World War II. Not only that, they were used extensively on and off-road competitions. They were quite a thing during those days and a favorite of military personnel. This is not the end. There are more to know about this bike.
Limited Stock
In the late 20s, the manufacturer was producing only five models of motorbikes. Clearly, production of motorcycles was not their priority. At that time, manufacturing of arms was their prime focus.
Tremas
It all began when Pyotr Vladimirovich Mozharov, the lead engineer of the factory moved to Leningrad and formed an association named Trust mass production which is also famous as “Tremas” (“Тремасс”). They would cast and produce engines and transmissions for assembly at the Prometheus facility (“Промет”). It is when A-300 was manufactured for the first time.
The Copies of German Bikes
It was in September of 1930 that the Russians manufactured 25 bikes and named them A-300. The manufactured bikes resembled a lot with German DKW Luxus-300. They all possessed one cylinder, 2-stroke bored at 296ccm. But how did it get its name Red October? Here is how……..
The Red October Factory
The production of bikes continued in Leningrad for three years and then the production got shifted to a factory called Red October. So that is how the bike got its name Red October. The primitive factory produced a limited-edition motorcycle that was made heavier than the previous models. The bike was taken in use for firefighting as it was equipped with a water pump.
