Loyalty

Penguins have always been known to be very loyal animals who stay with one partner throughout their lifetime. This could explain why Dindim had become incredibly loyal to Pereira. Where else can you see that a wild penguin returns every year to meet up with a human friend? We barely make time for our friends who stay away from us and to see that this penguin does it all for his human friend is a little unbelievable. This is truly a one in a million incident that does not happen anywhere else.

Warning

There have been records of several Magellanic penguins who have migrated to the northern side if ever they need to look for food. However, a case like this where a penguin returns once every year to a Brazilian beach is uncanny. They never forget their ritual and have done this all these years so, maybe the penguin does count this lovely man as his own family. Many of these penguins wash up on the shores of these beaches just like the one Pereira found and rescued from death.

Climate Change

Professor David Zee, who is working as an oceanographer from Rio de Janeiro’s State University reveals one of the most common difficulties that penguins have to face is climate change. “Every year the strong ocean currents from the Falkland region traps and brings many species of seals, whales, dolphins, turtles, and penguins to the Brazilian coast,” Zee reveals. When there is a change in climate, the animals always need to migrate to another area that suits their best interest.

Environmental Factors

“This is becoming more problematic due to environmental changes and the increasing frequency of el Niño, in which the Pacific Ocean is warming up for prolonged periods of time,” Zee further explains.“The marine creatures get confused and lost as they are dragged away on the surf from their normal habitat and end up in areas where they are unable to survive.” To hear about these animals having no proper place to stay truly makes you think about how much human activities are  polluting the environment.

More Danger

Professor Zee also blames man-made disasters such as oil spills in causing a grave danger to the ocean life and every living being in it. It causes severe problems in the ocean and makes it incredibly troublesome for the aquatic living beings. “Increased danger with the ongoing contamination of the oceans with oil and other derivatives,” Zee claims as he talks about how deadly oil spills have become for animals like Dindim. He was lucky Joao was there in time as the oil would have ultimately killed the poor penguin.

Fortunate Ending

It was lucky for Dindim the penguin that Pereira de Souza was present just in time for him to be saved and taken care of to be able to run back to the wild. The fact that Dindim was able to completely recover and find his way back home was also a true miracle. The little penguin is a fighter who did not give up on himself but rather rose to the occasion, to become healthier and bouncing back. He did not let the traumatic condition he went through stop him from continuing his life.
