After The War

Soldier 17Indeed the fake media reports had made her life really difficult. And when she disclosed the reality in her book, the thing got even worse with people criticising her. But she was too strong to bow down at such difficulties. She graduated herself from the University of West Virginia and received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees soon after getting discharged from the hospital. It was time for her to follow her dream career and become a teacher. The bad days were over and a new ray of hope was lighting up her life. Jessica tied the knot with Wes Robinson and gave birth to their daughter in 2007. It had been more than a couple of years but still, the sweet memories of Lori were there in her heart and in order to tribute her Native-American pal she named her daughter Dakota Ann.

A Mother’s Love

Soldier 22Jessica had seen a lot in her life but when Dakota arrived she felt all her pain soothed. As we told you before, Jessica loved proving people wrong. The medical reports claimed that Jessica would not be able to conceive a baby because of her injuries. But not only she conceived but also gave birth to her beautiful daughter that became her life. Jessica loves going on walks with her daughter and sharing her unusual experiences with the crowd.

Let’s Get Physical

Soldier 21Despite the grave injuries that still trouble her sometimes, Jessica does not compromise with her fitness. She has been exercising hard for the last five years after the Iraqi war, in order to keep herself in shape. She said “Physical Therapy is my second home. It has helped me through everything. Overall I’ve had, I think, up to 22 surgeries,” she went further “Because of the internal damaged that I suffered, along with the nerve damage and the broken back.”

Stays Humble

Soldier 26She had got just discharged when she was attending her college and her wounds were yet to heal. So she had to wear braces while going classes. She reminisces “It gives me the opportunity to blend in and not stick out and really experience the college life, just like they are.” Jessica clarifies “I want people to remember me as being a soldier who went over there and did my job. Nothing special. I’m just a country girl at heart.”

Teaching The Next Generation

Soldier 27Her life had come full circle, now she was doing what she wanted to do since childhood. After her studies, she embraced the profession of teaching. Jessica stated “I wanted to go to college and be a teacher, I’m all about kids. I’ve always wanted that. I was meant for that and I was going to have it.” Currently, Jessica has been working as a substitute teacher. And she has a lot of time for herself and for her family.  She did not opt for a full time teaching as it could have been troublesome for her perceiving her current physical condition.

Hitting The Big Screen

Soldier 28Jessica debuted in movies with a 2014 drama Virtuous. In the movie, she played the character of a military specialist. Creator Jason Campbell was confident about her character and believed after surviving the hardships of Iraq war, it is only Jessica who could pull off this character.
