Maria MiaSalazar aspired to work for Marine Corps. She further gained fame for being the only women to be in the forward party that constituted of 59 troops and were placed in Iraq. She voiced her opinion against general perception that women should not serve in the military, she said “Just because I have long hair doesn’t mean I can’t shoot somebody and defend my family, defend our freedom. “
Jennifer Blain, 32
Army Reserve, 2005-2009
Sadly, it is generally believed that army is not for trans women. Jennifer Blain axed all these presumptions with her abilities and skills. She came to earth as a man and belonged to a conservative family coming from Baptist Church. It was not an easy feat for Jennifer. She confronted lots of problems. Jennifer puts her view bluntly and says “I’m either a veteran or I’m a trans woman.”
Katelyn Sheehan, 26
Air Force, 2007-2011
Katelyn got admitted in the army, thanks to the college benefits she and her peers were offered. She sheds light on the most oblivious side of the army. She speaks about the constant sexual harassment a woman is subjected to in the army. Katelyn explains “I have a hard time finding female veterans who haven’t had experiences with at least harassment.”
