Swimming in a Dark Ocean
As he swam the Catalina Channel off the coast of California, it was challenging because he had to swim in the darkness because it started during midnight. Just imagine having to swim in pitch darkness with no clue what lies beneath you in the sea! It was chilly and it made him feel sick so it is not a surprise to hear that this was one of the least enjoyable swims for Walker.
Sharks and Such Things
Walker had to push through while swimming the Tsugaru Channel in Japan. He fell sick during the initial hours and then a shark swam beneath him as well. He even had to perform a high speed swim because of the waves that were approaching. The harsh waves even left a tiny jelly fish smashing right on his face. “I’ve never breathed so hard in my life,” Walker exclaimed. “My chest was tight and my shoulders were really sore from the hours of swimming and being bashed around.” He spent 15 hours and 31 minutes to finish this swim.
The Chilly North
His last swim was the North Channel between Ireland and Scotland, famous for bearing difficult waves. Putting the icy waters beside, this swim had a lot of Lion’s mane jellyfish in its water. He did not realize the huge size of these jellyfishes but found out after a few stings. He finished in 10 hours and 45 minutes. Walker had conquered so any harsh waters of this world. He has something else to be proud off as well.
A New Business
Walker and his girlfriend Gemma are now proud owners of Ocean Walker Ltd. This facility specialized in training people of all ages to swim in pools or open water. He even teaches his famous Ocean Walker Stroke technique for people who have back issues. This technique actually helps in the prevention of all these injuries. He also holds swim camps, one-on-one sessions, and even gives online lessons.
Motivational Speaking
Walker has gone on to become a great swimmer and mentor. Motivational speaking was just something he picked up along the journey of his business. he enjoys telling people his experiences accompanied b fascinating photographs and video footage of his swims and travel experiences. He also holds the position as an ambassador for the Royal Life Saving Society UK for water safety and drowning prevention and Zoggs UK.
Man vs. Ocean
Walker owns 2 websites for his Ocean Walker business and his personal use. He would give updates on the Oceans Seven swims. He then released a book that accounts his journey from a salesman to a swimmer called Man vs. Ocean, published in 2016. He records all his experiences with different kinds of sea creatures and his swimming incidents. This book has become a bestselling autobiography on Amazon.
