Giving Up?

She was considering leaving her degree! As handling the studies and job both was getting stressful for her day by day and it had come to the extent that she was forced to make a decision between her work and her studies. She had two options either devote her full time to her studies or give it up and focus entirely on her job. Then one day she saw something that helped her in taking the decisions.

Ad That Changed Her Life

While ambling on her campus one day she saw an advertisement, it was about enlistment in the army. The advertisement gave her an idea. She started to ponder about getting enrolled in the army. Perhaps admission in the army would provide her the change she was looking for. But she had no idea the hardship this profession required.

Joining Finally

After lots of pondering she decided to join the army but before getting into that she needed to explore all the options military has. She did an extensive research on the career options in the military from Navy to the Air Force, and Marines. What captured her interest the most was marines. After getting sure that she wants to join marines she informed her kin about that.

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

Well, the family and friends were completely taken by surprise at her decision. However, they did not stop her from going ahead. After getting family’s consent, she went to the recruiter. Sadly, the recruiter seemed doubtful about her potential and so did not want her to let in. And that is what made Shannon surer about her decision. She had made up her mind she was going to enter marines at any cost.

Marine

Ignoring all the susceptibilities of people she finally joined marines. Thereafter, she went to South Carolina to undergo boot camp training. She knew it was going to be quite a feat. But the words of the recruiter were still inside her head. In fact, not just the recruiter but all other women trainees also thought that she would not be able to survive the hardship of a training and would give up one day.

Wouldn’t Make It

“A lot of the Marines initially thought that I might not be able to keep up physically, or that I somehow wasn’t ‘as strong’ as them so I made it my mission to prove them wrong.” Shannon disclosed.
