Getting Picked On
Demetra obviously felt really mistreated by the officials in her school. She was certainly not happy about how she was treated in her school. In a later interview, she even stated that she felt “picked on” by her school staff. However, she expressed her views about her school’s unfair treatment towards the girls in her school. Demetra has revealed that there is a double standard to how the school functions in terms of clothing when it comes to boys…
Inequality At School
Demetra then explained in detail how the dress-code violations are unfair to the girls of her school. It seems the school had a thing against boys wearing hats but never actually take action. “They don’t write you up for hats,” she claimed, “I know one guy who wore a hat to class every day last year, and he was never written up.” Demetra was not the only one who spoke up against her school, even Tony had a few words regarding his daughter’s school.
Dad Speaks Out
Tony had this in mind not because of the fact that it involved his daughter, but because he genuinely felt like it should not have been this way, that this was truly unfair to any school girl. Many other girls from her school were also “breaking the rules.” “Demetra isn’t alone,” he informed, “Just sit in Fisher’s parking lot and you’ll see that.” After doing some inspection Tony could immediately tell that there was a biased policy in favor of boys in the school.
No For Summer
A flaw that Raymond J. Fisher Middle School had was the dress code. This was basically due to the incompatibility it had with the seasons. The students have to abide by these rules that are especially targeted against girls. In school, there must be some leniency regarding school wear in the summer days. This became a heated topic as of August 28, when Demetra was called out for wearing the blue romper.
Not Just Demetra
Demetra’s dad was still against her school’s dress code and even her friends started backing her up. “I’ve heard from multiple girls that they just want to be comfortable, but they feel like they’re being pushed into wearing leggings in 100-degree heat,” he explained regarding the topic, “I was told by an administrator that the girls’ clothes are a distraction to the boys. That shouldn’t be a concern.” He had another thing to say about the dress code…
Truly Upsetting
Tony was on point when he addressed Demetra’s “problem” saying that it should not be a problem. His daughter is just a normal teenage girl who wants to live her life. “[Demetra’s] not a sex symbol. She just wants to be comfortable and attend class and we’re not affording her that opportunity,” says her father who also claims that she often comes home “both embarrassed and upset” after “you get pulled out of class in front of everyone.”
