Dad To The Rescue
And so Demetra unexpectedly found herself in a situation that was such a headache. She would have surely changed her clothes of her parents did not allow it. Her mom and dad were okay with the romper that she had on that school day. So when Demetra’s learned about what took place in school he was frustrated and infuriated. Soon he decided to voice his opinion and give the school his piece of mind in an unbelievable way…
That Fateful Day
It was an exceptionally hot day when Demetra showed up to Raymond J. Fisher Middle School in Los Gatos, California wearing the blue romper. It was actually 90 ⁰F on the thermostat, so the kids obviously had to wear heat friendly clothing. Her peers and even her teachers started to take notice of what the teenage girl was wearing. Her teachers called her out and told her that this was indeed too short for school wear…
Not The First Time
This was actually not the first incident in school where the school’s staff had something to say about what Demetra was wearing. She had been called out for wearing something ‘inappropriate before’. “When I got dress coded one time… they said my bra strap was showing,” she had revealed in a later interview, “Lord forbid I might be wearing a bra.” So what was different about this time?
Not Acceptable Still
So, on the blazing hot summer day, when Demetra was dress-coded for that blue romper she was wearing, her teacher made a call to her dad, Tony Alarcon. He had been asked to bring a change of clothes for his teenage daughter or she would be sent home for the rest of the day. Her father then brought a tank top with spaghetti straps and a pair of denim shorts for his baby girl. Her teachers still felt like this was an inappropriate attire for school.
Okay, Not Okay
When her father reached the school, he could not agree with the school officials. “I asked Demetra to bend over and touch her toes, right in front of the administrator,” Tony had explained to interviewers. “And I said, ‘Nothing is hanging out. There’s nothing inappropriate. I don’t understand this dress code rule.’” The two adults had a hard time finding an agreement regarding Demetra’s dress.
What About The Boys?
Even though Tony refused to agree with the fact that his daughter’s romper was “inappropriate,” the school decided to explain why to him. “[The school official] said the clothes were distracting to boys,” Tony explained. Even though he did not agree with the official, Tony still had to hand Demetra a pair of leggings. These would definitely help cover her legs but in the summer heat, it would have been extremely uncomfortable.
