The surgery made her famous in the U.S. as everybody recognized her as the first transgender veteran. She made it to the front page of New York Daily News in the early 1950’s.
Renée Richards
Renée Richards has a significant role to play when it comes to fighting for the rights of transgenders. The controversy arose when she was not allowed to participate in the 1976 US Open as she was a transgender. In a positive turn of events and with some sincere efforts the New York Supreme Court decided to overturn the ban and changed the law, thus allowing her to compete in the competition.

He is known for being very active when it comes to addressing the issues related to the transgender community.
