Keeping a dog is not an easy task as you have to cater to every tiny need of them ranging from taking them out for a walk to wash them regularly. The responsibility increases even more if you are having a rescue dog into the family. They require more care. Linda and her husband, Grant, who already had dogs decided to bring one more to home. This one was a rescue puppy with disturbing past. They loved the new member but were equally worried as to how their autistic son is going to react to that.

How Would Johnny React?

Linda and grant found out that their youngest son John is diagnosed with autism when he was hardly a year old. According to Linda “He wasn’t reaching his milestones,”. John had never shown interest in getting along with the two dogs they had. In fact, Sometimes he used to get irritated by them. Linda was highly concerned as to how both sufferers are going to greet each other.

Not An Easy Child

Johnny because of his illness has been a difficult child to raise. His father Grant explains “I couldn’t even order cold cuts at the deli counter, I’d roll up to the deli counter and say, ‘give me a half pound of this, a half pound of that,’.

Hates Being Introduced To New Things

Johnny never liked being introduced to new things, new people and new environment. Unfamiliar situation and people used to put her in anxiety. So naturally, his mother was not sure about his son’s response to the induction of a new member into the family. Was this change going to annoy him?

Love At First Sight

Linda had soon developed a soft spot for Xena also named the warrior puppy after watching her story on T.V. She wanted to bring her home the day he saw her images on news. During that time authorities were searching the culprit. The merciful story of the puppy pulled at her heartstring. She literally had a love at first sight.

Prayed For Her Night And Day

Linda said “I would pray for her at night and first thing in the morning… I would sign in [to Facebook] to see if she had made it through the night.”  The rescue team had made a Facebook page for Xena.
