Only Church Can Bless Engagements
People in the Amish cannot just get married or engaged without other’s knowledge. They can only get an engagement after the Amish church gives them an approval. Their plans for marriage are published in the town’s newsletter as soon as the church gives them a green signal.
Simple Weddings
The brides at Amish weddings wear simple blue dresses and have their head covered. There are no lavish gowns and jewelry. Cakes and decorations are out of the question too. These wedding usually occur in the fall and can go on for about a few hours.
Honeymoon: Bride’s Place
The Amish tradition is keeping the bride and groom in the bride’s parent’s place after their wedding! The honeymoon is spent on the bride’s parent’s house which they clean up the next morning to show gratitude. A very weird but sweet concept right?
More Of The Honeymoon…
The first night is spent in the bride’s parent’s home which is followed by a visit to all their relatives. They go on staying in the parent’s home until they can afford a home on their own. Then only they can move out to start an independent family of their own.
Barn Building
The Amish people show a great deal of selflessness by building barn houses for any local who needs one. They do not rely on the ease that a machine can access so it is very commendable. Everyone works together to build this barn as barns are a popular activity for the Amish.
Not Prone To Cancer
One very important point that we can bring out as an advantage of living in the Amish is that they rarely get cancer. All of the food and products they consume are all grown by themselves and are all natural, so this must be the reason. No alcohol or cigarettes are present in the Amish as well.
