Simon Marketing was yet to come over the fact of losing such a towering company when it faced another blow. Philip Morris, a prominent tobacco company too severed all kind of connection with the company. The firm just had lost 70 percent of its sale. If put together both the company used to give them the benefit of $768 million. So there is no denying the fact that the company had suffered a big loss. There were some who held the company responsible for its condition. One of them was fraud investigator Carl Pergola. Carl stated, “Where were the controls at Simon that would have prevented this?” The investigator further said, “That kind of position should be rotated every year. Jacobson had access to millions of dollars of the company’s money.”
Prolonged Trial
The trial went on for two years and finally, a federal judge scrapped McDonald’s allegation that the marketing company broke the contract. Simon Worldwide Inc. was paid $16.6 million by The McDonald’s Corporation to settle the lawsuit.
Rigged Against Canada?
No doubt, what Jacobson did was wrong but the question that remained oblivious till now is how he gathered the courage to cheat on such a big company. A feature in The Daily Beast suggested that the game was rigged against Canada. It was from there the man’s hunger for money fuelled.

Needless to say that the scandal stigmatized the status of McDonald’s. From there on the fast food chain is doing its best to win back the trust of its customers.
