In Copeland’s letter, he also informed that was actually scheduled to return back home to San Diego by late January. Unfortunately, he could not enjoy the comfort of being with his lovely girl as his return kept on being delayed. This was due to the recent government being shutdown which ultimately slowed down the process. He had to remain there for an extended amount of time.
No Time For Goodbyes
After Copeland’s letter was read out, Ellen then turned to an emotional but happy Gonsalves, inviting her to get onstage. The 25-year-old then told Ellen straightaway that her boyfriend’s deployment was very quick and unexpected. This was why she had found it quite difficult to cope with his absence. These two were not given ample time to say goodbye. It was heartbreaking to get separated so sudden that way, but the couple had no choice but to comply.
A Few Days Prior
After being invited to join Ellen onstage, the 25-year-old was still quite emotional. “He went into work on a Friday and then he came home from work that Friday and they were like, ‘You’re going on Sunday’ so he had two days to pack up his whole life and just leave for a year. He’s been gone for over a year right now,” Gonsalves revealed to the host, talking about the time they had spent apart.
Complimenting Ellen
Since she was a big fan of the show, Gonsalves seemed pretty happy to have gotten the chance to sit in the audience that day. She was definitely saddened by Copeland’s sudden absence, but Gonsalves quickly confessed to Ellen about how her show had had an impact on her life. This young woman used her chance to pour out how meaningful Ellen’s show had been for her.
A Complete Shock
Gonsalves’ excitement was clearly plastered across her face judging from the wide grin she had. “I can’t even believe this is happening right now,” Gonsalves was smiling, as she joined her favorite host onstage. Ellen was also very touched and moved by Gonsalves’s story. And so it was soon time for Ellen to give her huge surprise to the girl who had been away from her boyfriend for about a year now…
Audience Explodes
Ellen gave Gonsalves something that she was surely going to celebrate getting. It was tickets to join the show again on her birthday. Then Ellen asked her crew to come and give Gonsalves the tickets for her birthday show. This was immediately followed by the crowd’s explosion. This is certainly something that Gonsalves will never forget, something that would cement her love for Ellen forever!
