Hopeless
It was clear that the dogs were infected with mange but the doctors were still doubtful if they had other diseases. So, they did some test on them to find out. Fortunately, the dogs did not have parvo and distemper. So they did not delay in treating them for parasites. The doctors were hopeless about the survival of the puppies but they kept trying. Carson explains “They were diagnosed with mange, which did not surprise us since we could all see that from their appearance, They ran blood work on them all, and while the first set of blood work was not the best due to malnutrition and dehydration, they were negative for parvo and distemper. However, they were riddled with parasites and treatment started immediately.”
Losing One Of Them
No matter how much they tried but they could not save one of those five puppies. He had been highly infected by the Mange and parasites and due to his tender age, he could not survive the disease. Carson asserted “The combination of the mange and amount of parasites was just too much on its tiny body.” On the positive side, the other four dogs had been saved. And their health improved very much under the care of vets.
Days Of Recovery
The vets catered to every need of the rescued dogs and resultantly they grew stronger day by day. One more positive thing was that the dog had started interacting with humans. Carson explained, “While we don’t know where they came from, or what they have been through, it’s clear that whatever human interaction they previously had was not good.” She added further “The good news is that they’re young, so it’s going to be very easy for them to socialize and overcome whatever terrible things have been done to them. And they’re getting a little bit more trusting, which is a good thing.”
Rapid Progress
The puppies were showing rapid progress in their health. So, Carson decided to let them stay at the vet for many more weeks. Carson opens up “It’s rewarding seeing them laying on a blanket, and seeing them inside and not out in the middle of nowhere. It’s also great knowing that they’re getting the treatment that they need. It’s always those tiny little steps that lead to the big steps.”
Vaccination
The organization is waiting for the dogs to recover completely. After having them back in health, they would be given vaccination required to be taken to the U.S. And lastly, the organization would look for a foster home for the puppies. Carson clarifies “Fosters are desperately needed,” she adds “We pay for everything. All they need to do is give them a loving and safe environment. That’s the only thing we ask our fosters to do.”
Not The Only Case
There is a lot of stray dogs roaming on the street of Turkey and this wasn’t the first time the stray dogs were found in such a heartbreaking condition. There was one more instance that shook the entire nation. It happened in 2017 when more than 800 dogs were found fending for themselves on a landfill of Corum in Turkey. Nobody knows how these dogs in such a big number ended up here and how were they going unnoticed by the passerby and authority for days. Except for the number these puppies had nothing extraordinary about them. They belonged to the same breed most stray dogs of Turkey belongs to. And many often can be found roaming the streets of the country but here the astonishing fact was dogs magnificent population. How come so many dogs got accumulated at the same time at the same place?
