Coming To Life

Once the volcano calmed, they sailed towards the island. The very island they saw coming into existence. They were still in disbelief. Why would they not be, not many people get the opportunity to witness the miracles of nature? They finally have a story to tell for the coming generations.

Approaching The Newborn

Larsson said “A couple of hours ago we identified the active volcano as the one close to Home reef, and we are on our way there now to take a closer look. We are two miles from it and we can see the volcano clearly. One mile in diameter and with four peaks and a central crater smoking with steam and once in a while an outburst high in the sky with lava and ashes.”

Food For Thought

The appearance of the island did not only amazed the witnesses but also the scientists from all over the world. Usually, these kinds of volcano eruptions happen at the far end of seas or in the deep points. But here, the volcano was seen by humans which clearly means it occurred quite near the shore.

Withered Away

However, when a volcanologist at London’s Kingston University, Scott Bryan visited the site to inspect the island, he saw a wholly different view. As the island came into existence five months ago, it had been nearly washed away by the forceful waves by the time he reached the spot.

Remnants

However, there was a rotten-egg smell of sulfur dioxide gas that signified that magma was still cooling inside. Bryan took some water samples near the volcano site for chemical analysis and acknowledged that a shallow seamount is probably all that remains of the fascinating island at Home Reef.
