Childhood Effects
It might be very difficult for us to grasp the separation anxiety these triplets went through in their childhood. There has been much scientific research that backs the development of separation anxiety in separated siblings. According to them Robert, Eddy, and David might not be remembering about their siblings in their childhood but they all had been together in the womb. That led to their separation anxiety.
Kellman’s Inkling
Their separation anxiety of David Kellman was well perceived by Claire Kellman, his adoptive mother. David in his childhood used to get this strange feeling of having someone missing from his life. Claire said “David began talking very early. I remember him waking up and saying, ‘I have a brother.’ “We would all talk about his ‘imaginary brother.’ Just like David, the other two also had gone through the same feeling.
A Lasting Impact
You may not believe but the childhood separation can leave a long-lasting effect on an individual. A person can undergo many symptoms. Some of them include lacking a sense of independence, familial discord, lacking the ability to develop and maintain relationships, social isolation, low self-esteem, academic failure, development of symptoms of other mental health conditions, and suicidal thoughts and behaviors. Similarly, Robert, Eddy, and David too did have the effect of it.
A Lifetime Apart
There have been many incidents in which some particular twins went through separation anxiety on being away from each other for few hours. Not only that some face the severe side effects of separation anxiety if they attend different colleges or get shifted to some other state. Imagine what Robert, Eddy, and David would have gone through who had been living apart for almost a couple of the decade.
Shafran’s Troubled Past
Their picture-perfect life got dainted the moment when Robert Shafran was found involved in a robbery that ultimately led to the murder of an old woman. However, the judge sentenced him community service as according to him Robert’s role in it was “minimal.”
The Inevitable Tragedy
Eddie Galland committed suicide in 1995 at his home in Maplewood, New Jersey. He had been fighting depression for a long time. At the time of suicide Galland was only 33 years old. He was survived by his wife and daughter. For now, no one has found the reason behind his suicide but one can rule out the possibility of separation anxiety as the root cause of his depression. This is exactly what his brothers believe.
