Robb Stark
The character of the eldest son of the Stark family and heir of Ned Stark, King in the North, was portrayed correctly for the most part by Richard Madden. In the books, Robb, Bran, Rickon and Sansa look like their mother and the Tully side having auburn hair and blue eyes. Also, Robb is more broadly build and does not have a beard. Martin writes “He was big and broad and growing every day, with his mother’s coloring, the fair skin, red-brown hair, and blue eyes of the Tullys of Riverrun,” also “War had melted all the softness from his face and left him hard and lean. He had shaved his beard away, but his auburn hair fell uncut to his shoulders.”
Lysa Arryn
Book readers were taken aback when they first saw Kate Dickie playing the role of Lysa Arryn as the appearance was way off than what was in the books. According to what Martin writes, she should be puffy and overweight as a consequence of a succession of failed pregnancies and even miscarriages. To be fair to Katie, she nails the jealous and paranoid side of Lysa but no chance she justifies the term “overweight”. Also in the show, she lacks the blue eyes color which runs in the Tully family. Martin describes her as, ” Shorter than Catelyn, Lysa had grown thick of body, pale and puffy of face. She had the blue eyes of the Tullys, but hers were pale and watery, never still. Her small mouth had turned petulant.”
Jorah Mormont
Ser Jorah, played by Iain Glen is not really bad looking which have led some fans to hope that one day, Khaleesi just might return his years-long unrequited love. But this deeply friend-zoned knight would not have been so dapper if the show had stuck to his actual description in the books. Be prepared, you are definitely not gonna like this one girls. Martin very explicitly says in the books that, ” Ser Jorah was not a handsome man. He had a neck and shoulders like a bull, and coarse black hair covered his arms are chest so thickly that there was none left for his head. ” Not quite heart throbbing now, is he? Our sympathies are still with him.
Lance Lannister
In the earlier seasons, Lance Lannister’s appearance is mostly accurate but as the show progresses and after he joins the Sparrows, most of what is shown are made up. Lance in the book takes serious wounds at one of the Battles which leads to his aging quite prematurely. He does give up his lordship with he joins the Faith Militant but no action as visible as face carving is involved in the book. “Martin wrote, Though only seventeen, he might have passed for seventy; grey-faced, gaunt, with hollow cheeks, sunken eyes, and hair as white and brittle as chalk. Though his hair had gone white, his mustache fuzz remained a sandy color.”
Tommen Baratheon
Tommen is as opposite to Joffrey as it is possible for two people to be. He is the kinder and more loved King, but also naive, because of his age. He is the youngest of the Baratheon/Lannister and Dean-Charles Chapman plays the role quite well. But there are major discrepancies in the portrayal of the character. Unlike the fit and trim looking Tommen of the show, he is actually supposed to be a “plump” boy having golden curls and eyes colored emerald green.
Euron Greyjoy
All the Greyjoys seemed made this list. Euron is Theon’s and Yara’s uncle who killed their father so as to claim the Salt Throne. While Pilou Asbæk has done an impressive job in playing his character the show, unfortunately, had ignored a lot of what makes Euron intimidating. Euron resembles his nephew and niece in the show but he should be otherworldly scary according to the books. In Martin’s books, his hair is “black as a midnight sea”. A black leather patch covered Euron’s left eye, but his right was blue as a summer sky,” and his “lips looked very dark in the lamplight, bruised and blue”- to indicate his addiction to the narcotic beverage named the ‘shade of the evening.’
