There are a lot of things that go through a swimmer’s mind when they are swimming in the ocean waters. It is common to have fears of deadly creatures that roam the oceans, but these swimmers mostly block out all of these negative thoughts. This guy was swimming in Cook Strait in New Zealand, with no clue about what was about to happen to him. Several dolphins started to circulate around him. “Why?” you ask? Read on and find out.

 A Sportsman From the Get-Go

Adam Walker grew up in Nottingham, U.K., and has always been into sports. His father Peter had always been very supportive of him and his brother who grew up playing cricket and rugby. He underwent a knee injury which kept him from playing sports. He then switched to swimming and it helped him stay fit and kept his health in check. He went on to compete in the sport of swimming and was actually very good at it. Never did he guess that swimming would bring him a lot of memorable moments in his life. Above all, this incident would definitely top his list of the most unforgettable experiences he had ever had.

When Duty Calls

After leaving his university, Adam Walker knew that he would have to start making serious career choices, so he ultimately switched to working in sales. Since he was intuitive, charming and smart, he could move up on the ladder of his career and very quickly became a national salesman. Walker soon made a name for himself, reaching his targets quickly. Who can blame him though? He was a sportsman first, so the competitive nature was already bred deep within him. But at the back of his mind, there was always something bugging him and he had to get to the bottom of this.

The Cook Strait

As of April 22, 2014, Adam Walker made a choice to swim the Cook Strait, which had been hailed as one of the strongest waves. Located in between North and South Islands of New Zealand, it joins the Tasman Sea to the South Pacific Ocean. Walker felt a little anxious but he maintained his cool by listening to motivational speeches on his mp3 player. Philip Rush his trainer was also very nervous but the same time excited to see Walker attempt this feat. Walker felt a little sick but jumper into the water regardless. He was not prepared for what was about to happen next.

A Fin Appears

After over three hours of swimming, Adam Walker was soon getting into the rhythm and soon lost the need to stop after every hour while he was swimming. His stomach was fine now and he felt unstoppable. And then suddenly, as he was about to take a breath of air for his next stroke, he saw that a fin surged right past him. He was so shocked to see that this creature was right beside him. He looked underneath and saw that it was encircling him. A school of dolphins had surrounded him and Walker was overcome with shock and disbelief. It felt unreal to him and he was happy to see that the dolphins were friendly enough to come near him. But then, he was in for a big surprise to see the real reason as to why they were doing this. He was distracted for a good 15 minutes but soon realized that we would have to continue with his swim. He then noticed that there was a huge dark creature lurking on his behind.

Since this was not the first time Walker found himself in the midst of sharks, he felt that he need to focus on the ultimate goal and just ignore the shark away. He still made a few peeps down to see the sharks though. He had to find out whether the shark was just swimming about or trying to take a bite off of him. The fact that he was actually swimming with dolphins and a shark was something he had never experienced before. So Walker was equally frightened and excited.

The Coast Is Clear

The dolphins did not leave Walker’s side and were a big help in boosting his confidence to perform a good swim. The shark being there did not stop him from feeling exhilarated. He found that the shark had completely vanished from there. These dolphins were there with him for about an hour even after the shark had left. Was the presence of these dolphins the reason why this shark had left?

These dolphins were still by his side for another 30 minutes, but by that stage, Walker had jumped into the mindset of finishing his swim once again. It was truly a magical experience for him and they did help him remain positive and focus on finishing his challenge. Even their tails touched him a few times and so he was questioning whether they were there to protect him or just merely swimming with him.
