Losing It
Since her biggest wish was for her dad to be present during her wedding, David’s colleagues wanted to do all that they can to ensure that at least a sense of David was there with them that day whichever shape or form. Mikayla further stated that she saw the men in uniform, “Everyone was in uniform and I was just like, ‘Oh, my gosh.’ I fell into his chest and lost it.”
Father-Daughter Dance
Mikayla had to take a minute or so to let herself cool down from what she had just witnessed and was still sort of in shock. Mikayla took time to dance with each of her father’s ex-colleagues to the song “I Loved Her First” by Heartland. “They all took turns dancing with me,” she revealed. It was such a heart-warming moment for everyone who witnessed it see her dancing with ‘variations of her father’.
With Best Friend
Since she wanted to include anything that is linked to her father at her wedding, Mikayla was overcome with joy and wept tears of joy. “The sheriff was my dad’s best friend and he danced with me last, so I was super emotional when he danced with me,” she explains telling interviewers about how meaningful the dance with him was, almost as though David was right there with her.
Important For Them Too
Mikayla was more than happy that her dad’s friends made it a point to dance with her on her special day. She could not have asked for a better surprise as they did all that in their uniform. The dance she shared with the other officers was also special not just for the gorgeous bride Mikayla, but for the men who’d worked with her dad as well.
Just For David
When Sheriff Matt Champlin was questioned by interviewers after the dance took place, he informed them that helping his colleague to partake in his daughter’s wedding “was really important.” They wanted to pay tribute and honor their deceased colleague any way they could. She was in a way their daughter too because they had been very close to David’s family.
A Little Piece of Him
David’s colleagues were all very tight and their friendship extended even outside their work. They cared a lot for each other and their families too. Champlin further stated, “Each and every one of us carry around a little piece of Dave with us every day. It was important to give that back to her on her wedding day.” They felt that it was the least they could do.
