It was reported that during the transformation of two museums namely the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland and National Museums Scotland, the importance of the shroud was forgotten but with its recent discovery, they planned to give the shroud the obligatory significance that it had lost during that time.
Displaying The Heritage
Finally, the shroud and more than 100 objects went on display as part of the exhibition, which described the story of the tomb as well as the miraculous discovery of the shroud in the exhibition. Before that, it looked like the museum was missing a part and the archeologist were making all the efforts to find it in all the directions and what they didn’t know was that it was inside the museum’s storage.
The Pride Of Museum
The shroud holds an important place in the museum and is considered as the pride of the heritage that it represents. It is placed alongside other funerary objects from the famous Thebes tomb and titled as “The Tomb: Ancient Egyptian Burial.” Margaret and her team proudly displayed and explained the people the story about the newly found shroud to the people visiting the exhibition.
The Exhibition
With the discovery of the shroud, the exhibition took place in early 2019 with great enthusiasm. It was recorded to be visited by countless people and was a huge success as they were preparing it to be. A lot of archeologists around the world came to attend and learned about the story of discovery and rediscovery of the shroud.
More Discoveries?
Dr. Maitland enthusiastically lead the team in the exhibition and said that the museum has still over 11 million pieces of artifacts from all over the world in the storage and every day when she comes to the museum she hopes to find another forgotten artifact as the shroud. The shroud wasn’t obviously just a discovery it had a whole history woven along with it which opened the door to many more discoveries that are yet to be undiscovered by the archeologists.
