Amazingly Vast
The city sprawled over five miles of the area falling between the Arkansas and Walnut rivers. It was a large-sized city. It is also believed that the 20,000 population of the city used to put up in “thatched, beehive-shaped houses.”
A Hunch?
An Arkansas City council member, Jay Warren described, “We always knew we once had a whole bunch of Indians living around here, because we had found way too many artifacts to think otherwise.” “But we had no idea until Dr. Blakeslee came along about how big it was.”
Belong To Etzanoa
Donald took help of a recently translated documents that was authored by the Spanish conquistadors to confirm that these artifacts belonged to the Etzanoa, a Native American lost city. The conquistadors set foot on the land about 400 years ago and had well described the artifacts of the city in their book.
Well-Developed City
So what do they have to say about the city? Blakeslee explained, “The Spaniards were amazed by the size of Etzanoa.” “They counted 2,000 houses that could hold 10 people each. They said it would take two or three days to walk through it all.”
So Right!
Donald was amazed at the accuracy of their description of the town. He described, “‘I thought, ‘Wow, their eyewitness descriptions are so clear it’s like you were there,’” “I wanted to see if the archaeology fit their descriptions.” He continued, “Every single detail matched this place.”
The Source
People had been finding artifacts for many years but they had no idea where did they come from. Warren “Hap” McLeod who lives in Arkansas City explains, “Lots of artifacts have been taken from here,” He added, “Now we know why. There were 20,000 people living here for over 200 years.”
