It’s Over 600 Years Old!
If we go by Ms. Boughton’s report, the ring belonged to the 14th century. Whereas on one side it is engraved with Christ in his child form the other side depicted a female saint. One more thing that they learned was that the ring shares similarity to the one drew on the Archbishop of Canterbury William Wytlesey’s tomb. Nottinghamshire Country Council shared the details…….
A Famous Forest
Councillor Alan Rhodes leads Nottinghamshire County Council. His view of the matter is important. He clarified that if it gets proven that the ring belonged to someone really important from the 14th century then this discovery would surely be dubbed as “stunning find and fantastic news for Nottinghamshire, and our world-famous Sherwood Forest.” He also stated that the ring itself emanated a special vibe and said that “it is an exceptional piece.”
Robinhood Loot
The archaeologist coming from Nottinghamshire County Council Emily Gillott alluded towards the kind of stuff Robinhood used to loot. She called the ring to be the “kind of loot that Robin Hood would have been thrilled about.” She further pointed that this ring bore a great resemblance to the sort of ring that was worn by a bishop who used to visit Laxton Castle or Rufford Abbey. Much to our surprise that was not the end.
Metal Detecting Hobby
Gillott further stated, “All metal detecting finds can give us vital clues to the past when properly reported, like this one from gold rings down to lowly brass buckles.” She clarified that only the people that were already a member of the official group were entitled to launch a search for treasures. This was one of the many rules that treasure hunters are supposed to follow. Luckily, Mar was toeing the line of all the rules out there while searching the treasure.
The Hero?
Robinhood who is supposed to be linked with this discovery himself has an interesting life story. We all are well aware of that. Though the man was a thief he differed a lot from other thieves i.e. Fulk Fitzwarin and Eustace. He was a legendary figure because of his legendary deeds. Despite his different ways the man did share something common with other thieves.
Robbers Of Those Times
In those times, they all resorted to the king’s private forest reserves for refuge. Robbers focused primarily on the jungle of Sherwood and Barnsdale that still are part of many legendary stories. These forests are told to be the private lands where these thieves would go for a hunt.
