Detective Shank revealed that he lost his own father to Alzheimer’s, so it was a bit emotional for him. But overall, it was one of the best moments of his life. The moment Berenice noticed Shank, she couldn’t control her emotion, tears could be seen rolling down her cheeks.

“I never married and I never had children but this excitement, this has been the best day of my life,” Berenice said. Berenice, who’s suffering from dementia, excitedly explains that she felt like a 20-year-old. The Detective also gave her his police cap to wear.

Detective Shank took a tour of the nursing home, and, Berenice was so touched by this gesture of his. It was an impressive sight for her younger brother John as well. He was awestruck with Shank’s shining black shoes.

A New Yorker Friend of Berenice
He told Berenice if ever she travels to New York, she shouldn’t forget that she has a friend there. He even vowed to be her tour guide and told her that he would take her around the city, plus, he would take her on a nice steak dinner in the Big Apple. After listening to all this, she was ecstatic and her eyes were full of tears.
Fascinated By New York
Berenice was awestruck and said to Detective Shank, “I can’t believe this.” When he questioned Berenice that why she was so fond of New York, she replied, “I’ve been fascinated with New York…I’ve seen photos of New York and I want to be there.”
