Origin Of Cereal
Let’s take out some time and thank the Romans because of whom our daily breakfast got its name; cereal. The word “cereal” was derived from the Roman goddess Ceres as she was associated with edible grains.
False Accusations Had Consequences
Romans were very strict when it came to a false accusation. If any prosecutor ever went on with a false accusation they would end up with a “K” on their forehead. It was done when false claims started to consume a lot of court’s time.
Worth Its Weight In Gold
The Romans court once made a notice for Gaius Gracchus, a politician’s capture. There was a bounty on his head which was his head’s weight in gold.
Gracchus fled the city and his body was found in a grove where he committed suicide. The Senate who brought his head never got the bounty price as he replaced Gracchus’ brain with molten lead.
The Original Whoopee Cushion
Emperor Elagabalus, a 14-year-old designed the first whoopee cushion. The young boy was also known as Rome’s “Decadent Boy Emperor.” He went on using the whoopee cushion during royal dinners. Many times he kept it under the chair cushions of royal members just to make a joke out of it.
The Carthage Threat
One Roman senator, Cato the Elder always concluded his speeches with: “And, further, I think that Carthage should be destroyed.” He always said that the Carthage will be a big threat to the Roman Empire which was proved right in the battle of Cannae.
God Of The Latrine
Apparently, the Romans worshiped Crepitus as a “toilet god” who was also known as the god of flatulence. So far, these are just assumptions as there’s no solid proof for it. If this isn’t gross enough, then dare to read further. Also, it might not sound gross to everyone as it was part of their life.
