A native of the Indian Ocean and Indonesia, the coelacanth was declared extinct when in 1938 it was rediscovered. They are more close relative to lungfish, reptiles, and mammals. According to the scientists, they evolved and the evolution to their present form happened some 400 million years ago.

Stingrays no doubt are the largest freshwater fish in the world. They grow up to 1.9 m across and can weigh more than 600 kg. What we see today is the evolution that happened 100 years ago. Like most of the ancient animals, stingrays also face grave danger and are on the verge of extinction mainly due to its meat and habitat disruption.

This egg-laying, duck faced, beaver-tailed and feet like the otter is considered as the weirdest animal in the world. Their look can easily tell that it must have been here for a very long time hence making it a prehistoric creature. The oldest found fossils are about 100,000 years old, which means the first platypus lived in the supercontinent of Gondwana some 170 million years ago.

This one creature has changed the least in all these prehistoric years. Their fossils have shown that they existed for at least 30 million years ago. The fossils which were found in France suggests that they haven’t changed a lot. They look strikingly same as the modern-day pelican.

It’s hard for scientists to tell the exact date of their existence. But looking at the fossils record they suggest that they are some 760 million years old. Sponge are found all around the globe where there is water. Surviving at the depths of oceans they are harmless creatures.
