A Movie within a Movie
The most interested fans may have already figured this one out. The movie Angels with Filthy Souls (in Home Alone) and its sequel Angels with Even Filthier Souls (in Home Alone 2) were created by Columbus. Real or not, we will never forget its catchphrase “Keep the change, ya filthy animal!” featured in the first movie.
A Different Ending
Still on the topic of Angels with Filthy Souls, here is the original closing scene of Home Alone. In it, Harry and Marc, the Wet Bandits, could be seen in prison watching that fictional movie. They would then understand how Kevin tricked them!
Safety Comes First!
There was no way they were going to risk Culkin getting hurt during the iconic scene of Harry and Marv stopping their Dodge Ram van right near his face! That is why they pulled a trick and filmed the scene in reverse! Instead of driving toward him, they were actually pulling away. It took some editing to make it as believable as if they were actually driving towards him!
A Confident Child
Kevin is portrayed as a vulnerable child as Home Alone starts but soon reveals himself to be confident and brave. A change in the camera angle was all it took in order to portray him as so. As the movie starts, Kevin is shot from above, giving the impression he is small. That changes as he builds up his confidence, taking care of the Wet Bandits. He is then shot from below, which gives the impression he is actually taller.
Best Original Score
Originally it was Bruce Broughton that was going to produce Home Alone’s music soundtrack. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the plan changed and John Williams was the one chosen to cover for Broughton. He created the music only after he received the final print of the movie. Home Alone even got to be nominated for Best Original Score and Best Original Song with “Somewhere in My Memory”. Good job, Williams!
A $1.585 Million House
671 Lincoln Avenue was one of the scenarios where Home Alone was shot. Located in a suburb 21 miles north of Chicago, in Winnetka, Illinois, the house was sold in 2012 for $1.585 million! During the filming process, the former owners of the house were so nice they would even make hot chocolate for the cast and crew.
