Royal Castle was a fast food joint that exuded the mom and pop vibe. Their mini hamburgers were the main attraction and were very similar to the ones served at White Castle. “Fit for a king!” was the motto that this burger joint had. The restaurant chain spread to around 175 locations. Although all the locations have been shut down, there is one still operating in Miami in case you are interested.

Pup ‘N’ Taco

Pup ‘N’ Taco opened up in Southern California and served extra special tacos, hot dogs and pastrami sandwiches. Their first location was set up in Pasadena in the year 1965 and by the time 1973 came, there were 62 Pup ‘N’ Taco chains in the state alone. The real estate prices due to their ideal locations cause issues and Taco Bell eventually bought them in 1984. Some remaining locations still operate as “Pop ‘n’ Taco.”

Mighty Casey’s

Might Casey’s was opened in Atlanta, Georgia, which was very popular for people staying in the metro area to eat at. They gained fame for their excellent hamburgers, chopped BBQ sandwiches, Cajun wings, and Frankfurters. The restaurant chain opened at 1980 and ended up being bought by Krystal in 1994. It was praised for their creative and fun menu that was also impressive to the taste buds.

Yankee Doodle Dandy

Yankee Doodle Dandy started in 1966 by Chris and Bill Proyce, brothers and was quite the famous hamburger chain. And this gained popularity in Chicago where 27 locations were opened. They stood out for their red, white and blue motifs. The owners wanted to create a sit-down restaurant. And so gradually, the Yankee Doodle Dandy closed up to make way in 1988 for a chain of casual dining restaurants called Bailey’s Restaurant & Bar.

La Petite Boulangerie

La Petite Boulangerie, or “The Little Bakery” in French, had just 2 openings when it opened in 1977. This American chain was later bought by PepsiCo and soon they were set up everywhere. At the height of La Petite Boulangerie’s popularity, there were 140 locations across the country. Then Mrs. Fields Original Cookies Inc purchased them and eventually ended up being bought by Java City.

Carrols

Carrols restaurants were all the rage during the ’50s till the ’70s. They were a hamburger and fast food joint that had a signature menu item called the Club Burger. Their slogan was even on their cups: “Home of the Club Burger”. Opened by Herb Slotnick in the early 1960s from an ice cream franchise, this was then expanded all over the country. In 1975, a majority of the locations were switched to Burger Kings and the last location was turned into a Finnish chain in 2012 in Finland.
