This Mom Was About To Be Arrested. What Happened Next Was Heartwarming
Jessica Robles said she made the decision to shoplift $300 worth of groceries from Miami’s Publix supermarket out of desperation. She had found herself with no money left to buy food to feed her three young kids.
She was stopped by Miami-Dade Police Officer Thomas, but instead of taking her into custody, Thomas ran her criminal history and found nothing major, so she charged her with a misdemeanor and a notice to appear in court.
Thomas, a 23-year police veteran asked Robles why she did it, the young mother said, her children were hungry and she needed to. When the officer asked if she had food at home, Robles said, “I looked at her and I told her, ‘Not at all.'”
Before releasing Robles, Officer Thomas purchased $100 worth of groceries for her and her three children. She said, “I made the decision to buy her some groceries because arresting her wasn’t going to solve the problem with her children being hungry”.
Robles mentioned to Officer Thomas that when she left her home that day that she needed to come back with something for her kids to eat. She said, “I had to do it.”
Robles’ 12-year-old daughter explains she has to tell her little brothers, ages 2 and 5, that they’re out of food. “It’s not fun, to see my brother in the dirt hungry, asking for food and we have to tell him, ‘There is nothing here'”.
John Challenor of phonedoctor.com invited Robles in to see her resume and hired her as a customer service rep on the spot. Robles told Challenor through tears, “There’s no words, how grateful I am that you took your time and helped somebody out. Especially somebody like me.”
